4 Practice Habits That Make A Huge Difference In My Sessions

No matter what I’m working on, I know that if I do these 4 habits, the session will be more beneficial and enjoyable. I want to share them with you:

1. Planning your practice breaks

How many times have I taken a practice break, only to scroll for longer than my break time? Too many times.

Since then I have found that if I actually plan what I will do during my breaks, it has helped me to feel so much more refreshed and ready to practice again.

I do a load of different things including reading, playing a piano, playing guitar, stretching on the floor, meditation… all sorts of things!

I challenge you to find some things that you can plan in when you have a practice break.

2. Having your specific rituals — mine is tea

It’s a given for me: my sessions are so much better with a cup of tea. When I do a session without one it just isn’t the same.

For you it might not be tea. Maybe it is water or coffee, a small plant you bring with you, or some way of lighting that helps. Finding that thing that helps you focus just that little bit more can really change a session.

3. Doing something fun as a warm up

This is a big one for me. I really like to improvise to whatever is stuck in my head. Jazz, pop, soul music… anything. Since it has nothing to do with what I am about to practice, it gets me into a good space for practicing, without actually starting my repertoire.

I’ve also found that doing this can help me see some technical things that I might need to work on in my sessions. It can be so helpful and is very fun.

4. Actually planning your sessions

This really makes the difference for me. My sessions have to be planned. For me, I use a Notabl_ Practice Journal which already has everything laid out for me to plan my sessions — all I have to do is fill in the blanks.

As soon as I realised this was working, I knew that I had to tell you about it and give you a code. Use code ELEANOR15 for 15% off your order.

I never recommend anything that I don’t love. This email contains an affiliate code which means that I receive a commission — with no extra cost to you! 😊

I wish you all the best with your practice!

All my best,

Eleanor
