Need To Practice More Strategically? Start here

Spending fewer, but more effective, hours in the practice room is more important than spending more ineffective hours.

Ever wondered why some musicians excel while others struggle despite putting in endless hours of practice?

Let’s get you practicing efficiently!

When I was applying to 12 different music schools in three different countries, each country and school had different repertoire requirements. So I needed to be really, really strategic and I needed the most efficient way of practicing. In order to do this, I worked on planning my practice out really strategically to stay focused the whole time.

At Confident Musicianing, my mission is to fuel your confidence to help you achieve your musical goals. Through the podcast, different series, and guides, you are equipped with the resources you need. Today we are discovering some of those resources to get you on track.

This is the first episode of a three part series. The other episodes will be about:

  • experiencing joy in music
  • preparing for auditions

1. The Goal Setting Strategy

Remember when I was talking about how I was planning my practice when I was auditioning for music school? This is that method that I used. This strategy takes you through setting that big goal and turning it into bite-sized, effective practice sessions. One of the big things when it comes to achieving that big goal is staying on track. This strategy is designed to keep you focused, even when it gets hard.

This episode of the Confident Musicianing Podcast covers the power of small goals in practice, creating a roadmap to achieve that big goal, and effectively rewarding your efforts. Because, let’s be honest, when you have achieved your goal or work towards it, that deserves some rewarding.

This episode is 10 minutes long, so it is the perfect episode to download and listen to on the go. Whether that is it on your way to school or rehearsal, or when you are having lunch, or anything else, it is perfect to download and listen to!

3. The Confident Musician’s Audition Guide

An effective practice session needs to be planned well. When we are auditioning, planned practices are crucial! This skill needs practice.

This guide takes you from the practice room, all the way to on the audition stage!

Do you struggle with…

PLANNING YOUR PRACTICE?

Then chapter 1 is your go to! We cover how to segment your practice so you cover all of your repertoire and making every session count!

WORKING WITH ACCOMPANISTS?

This can be nerve-wracking, especially if it’s the first time! In chapter 3, we go right into how you can get an accompanist, and what to do in that rehearsal!

GETTING IN “THE ZONE” AT AUDITIONS?

Right before your audition, you need to be mentally ready. That is what chapter 5 is all about.

MENTAL PRACTICE?

This doesn’t get talked about enough, so chapter 2 is all about it!

SETTING UP MOCK AUDITIONS?

This is the best way to get used to auditioning. We cover how you can do this in chapter 4.

AUDITION NERVES?

We all get them, so ways of working through them are scattered all throughout the guide!

CELEBRATING YOUR EFFORTS?

This step is often forgotten, but not here! Check out chapter 7 for this one.

STAYING CALM IN THE AUDITION?

That small audition window is all you have. How to stay calm? — it’s in chapter 6.

Let me know what you think of these resources in the comments!

Happy practicing,

Eleanor
