3 Quick Ways To Get the Spark Into Your Practice

We’ve all been there, stuck in the practice room with no motivation. It sucks.

I’m guessing that you’ve probably been there too. Or maybe it’s going well and you just wanted to make it even better. Either way, we’re going to jump into three ways to freshen up your sessions and bring the spark back into practicing.

1. Change Your Atmosphere

Even if you are in a practice room that you can’t really re-decorate, it can be even simpler than that. For instance, standing when you usually sit. I did this when I was feeling unmotivated, and that simple change was monumental to my feeling fresher and ready to work.

It is different for everyone, and you can experiment with what works for you. Maybe it is opening a window, or using a different room, or maybe even bringing something into the practice room — a tiny plant or something that makes you want to focus.

2. Play for People — Get Feedback

This is usually what a lesson is for, but if you don’t have your lesson that day, this can be really helpful too. When you are playing something and it’s good, but you don’t really know how to get it great, get a friend or two … or three, and play something for them. They can give you feedback and this will help you see things that you might not have thought of before. All of a sudden, you have new perspectives and things to work on in the practice room.

3. Celebrate your wins

If you are not celebrating your wins, then how are you going to be motivated to keep practicing? Even if it’s small, like writing them down in a notebook, or telling a friend, we are showing ourselves encouragement.

I, personally, have a notebook where I write all my wins at the end of the week, and it is a great reminder of the things I have achieved.

You might be saying to me right now, “Eleanor, that sounds great, but how do I actually do that? I don’t really know how to figure out how to celebrate.”

And to that I bring you The Standing Ovation Series. This 3 day series was first launched a few months ago. Every day, you will get an email from me celebrating the hard work that you have done that day. It will also give you insightful things to think about for the next day of practice. This is just like your personal standing ovation for three days. Are you with me on this? So if you are ready to celebrate you because I certainly am sign up for the Standing Ovation Series!

What people are saying about the series:

So if you want to be like Nikolas and Kaylynn, sign up for the series!

Let’s get your practice sessions meaningful and exciting!

All my best,

Eleanor
