Why should musicians introduce themselves to each other? Networking is so important. Here is the story of how an introduction turned into a really exciting opportunity.
I recently went to a music event for wind orchestras. The event had different representatives from wind companies. And there just happened to be the UK representative of a woodwind company that I really admire.
I wanted to introduce myself to them, but I was really nervous. What if I made a bad first impression? After a minute, I decided to swallow my nerves and just introduce myself. And I am so glad I did.
That introduction turned into a really exciting opportunity where I filmed some oboe videos with them. (Including this video where I answer Google’s most common questions about oboe.)
I’m so glad I introduced myself and am grateful for the opportunity it turned into. As musicians, it is so important to introduce ourselves to others and create professional connections.
So I challenge you. Next time you are in a room with musicians, introduce yourself to at least one new person. You never know where it can take you.
I wish you all the best,
Eleanor
